Who we are?
The Business Registry, Investment, and Intellectual Property Office is the government division dedicated to promoting, facilitating, retaining, expanding and regulating investment in Tonga. We work to create a supportive and business-friendly environment that drives sustainable economic growth and long-term development.

As part of the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development (MTED), we provide free and confidential guidance and support to both domestic and international investors in every step of the way, from initial interest to business expansion.

New Zealand – Tourism

Established in 2014 with a US$60 million investment from New Zealand, Tanoa Hotel offers top-tier accommodation for both leisure and business travelers. Located in the heart of Nukuʻalofa, it has created over 30 local jobs and elevated Tonga’s hospitality standards.

Digicel

Bermuda - Telecommunications

Since 2022, Bermuda-based Digicel has invested US$20 million in Tonga’s telecommunications sector. With 36 jobs created, Digicel delivers reliable mobile, data, and home entertainment services, driving digital access and innovation across the islands.

OFA KI TONGA GROUP

China – Food & Beverage (Manufacturing)

With a US$10 million investment from China in 2016, OFA KI TONGA GROUP has developed a robust food and beverage processing facility. Producing sausages, soft drinks, and bottled water, the company employs 15–20 people and supports Tonga’s growing manufacturing sector.

Bank South Pacific (BSP)

Papua New Guinea - Finance

BSP, from Papua New Guinea, entered Tonga in 2014 with a US$10 million investment. Beyond offering banking, insurance, and investment services, BSP is deeply engaged in community development, employing 73 people and supporting financial literacy programs.

National Pacific Insurance (NPI)

New Zealand – Finance

Since 2008, New Zealand’s NPI has provided vital insurance solutions tailored to Tonga’s local context. With a US$5 million investment and 14 jobs created, NPI contributes to a more secure financial environment for residents and visitors alike.

Heilala Vanilla

New Zealand – Agroprocessing

Established in 2008, this vanilla processing venture attracted an estimated investment of US$150,000 and created 8 direct jobs, working closely with vanilla farming communities in Vava'u. It is the world’s only B Corp certified vanilla company, adding value to Tonga’s agricultural exports.

Heilala Vanilla – A Sweet Success from Vavaʻu to the World
In 2008, New Zealand investors partnered with local farmers in Vavaʻu to launch Heilala Vanilla, an agribusiness that started with just US$150,000 in capital. 
Today, it is the world’s only B Corp Certified vanilla company, globally recognized for its commitment to ethical sourcing, sustainability, and community empowerment. This is more than an investment story, it’s a model of impact, growth, and shared prosperity.
