A young, growing, and ready workforce

  • Tonga is home to approximately 104,600 people, placing it in the medium range among Pacific Island States. Its population scale offers a balance between manageable size and access to a meaningful domestic market and workforce.
  • Over half of Tonga’s population (54%) is economically active, participating in the labor force across a variety of sectors including agriculture, tourism, public service, and emerging digital services. This reflects a motivated and work-ready society.
  • 61% of Tongans are under the age of 30, making it one of the youngest populations in the Pacific. This surpasses global averages (World: 48%; East Asia & Pacific: 37%) and positions Tonga as a vibrant and dynamic source of talent for years to come.
